“The Tivaevae’s Embrace: A Song of Love and Memory”

I learned that Kiri’s grandma had passed away, and inside the parcel came to her a home, a beautiful tivaevae. It filled Kiri’s heart with both sorrow and warmth as she reminisced about the stories her grandma had shared. The vibrant colors of the tivaevae seemed to tell tales of love and family, each stitch a memory carefully woven with care.

Her grandma sang her a song, a soft melody that floated through Kiri’s mind, wrapping around her like a comforting embrace, reminding her of the gentle presence that was now gone but never forgotten. As she closed her eyes, the vivid images of her grandmother’s gentle smile and the radiant patterns of the tivaevae filled her spirit with a sense of peace and belonging. In that moment, Kiri felt her grandma’s love surrounding her like a warm, endless hug — a reminder that even in sorrow, love remains.

25. Engineering

Kia Orana

Today we worked on our engineering skills by making cool things to help the environment. For example, we are building a bridge using old wooden forks from our school lunches because we have lots of them.

On Wednesday this week (Week 6), we had to pick from three kinds of engineering: Civil, Electrical, and Environmental. I really wanted to do electrical engineering, but most of my group chose Civil Engineering. I was a little happy but also worried about working with the group. Then our teacher said we could do both Civil and Electrical engineering, which was awesome because I didn’t know we could do that!

We got a special engineering book where we wrote our group name and made a cover for it. In the book, we wrote down our ideas and plans to help us build our project.

25. Enviromental Engineering – SSDM (Week 4)

Kia Orana

Today for this week we had engineering. We had a huge challenge to take on; we had to try and make a filter out of a 1.5-litre bottle. We had to create a filter out of the bottle. The first step was to cut the bottle in half, then we had to add the { coffee cloth }. Once we did that, we had to decide on what we should put in first, and we decided to put the { cotton balls } inside first. Then we added some pebbles into the water. Once that was done, we added { Activated Charcoal }. After that, we put the sand into the water bottle. Once we did that, we added the water into the bottom half of the bottle. Then we watch clear water come out of the bottle.

Structura Engineering

What is Structural Engineering?                                                                                                                                     Structural engineering is about designing and building the strong “skeleton” of things like houses, bridges, and towers so they don’t fall down. Structural engineers work out what materials to use (like steel, concrete, or wood)  and how to put them together so the structure can hold its weight and stay safe during things like storms and earthquakes. They also Plan and organise the maintenance of a building that is in construction

How much do Structural Engineers make?                                                                                                                                               Structural Engineers make about 85,000 to 105,000. It depends on how much you have worked in the profession. If you are a junior in Structural Engineering you would start off with a salary of 55,000 a year. But if you’re a Senior Engineer you would have a max income of 180,000 per year at best.

What Courses do you take to become an Environmental Engineer:

To become a structural engineer, start by earning a bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering. During your studies, gain hands-on experience through internships or entry-level jobs. Learn to use engineering software and understand building codes. After graduating, pass the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam, then work for several years under a licensed engineer to gain practical expertise. Once you have enough experience, take and pass the PE (Professional Engineer) exam to get licensed. Keep developing your skills through continuous learning, staying updated with industry standards, and networking with other professionals.

Engineering Electricity ( Week 5)

Kia ora

Today at school we had electrical engineering.

In electricity engineering, the class was doing activities to help people learn about electricity. How does it go? The group had a challenge to make the Matariki stars shine.

What I learn about What I learnt about electrical engineering is that the first occupation that we did was to pass the ball around the circle, but not in an ordinary way; we were strictly told not to hold the ball with our hands, which I personally think felt pretty simple, and to be brutally honest.
